Think you know about gargoyles? The beautiful winged race disappeared eight hundred years ago. When they last walked the earth, they traveled in close-knit packs, their throats marked with ancient runes. Their greatest enemies were the ugly and brutal harpies that people today mistake for gargoyles.
The victim of a harpy attack at seventeen, Dare lost his wings along with his poisonous barbs. When he meets Mim, he doesn't consider himself much of a catch. But Mim is the only power that can make the broken gargoyle whole again. And when she's abducted by a harpy, he's willing to sacrifice himself for her freedom.
Which might have worked, if Mim hadn't been willing to do the same thing.
Dare A Greystone Novel Book 2 eBook Taylor Longford
General Series Plot: A bunch of gargoyles got trapped behind a wall (by harpies) for 800 years frozen in their stone form not being able to make the transition because they can only make it if they have access to sun light. After being discovered by MacKenzie's stepfather they are shipped to Colorado to MacKenzie's house. Most of them arrive apart from 3 whom the shipping company lost. With Mac's help, the gargoyles try to find out what happened to the other 3. Mean while each one of them finds his soul mate.I copied this from my review on Valor cuz I want people to know how great the main plot is and why I read four books. Execution whoever? Not good at all!
In this book we learn almost nothing new about the gargoyles. It's basically book one but with Dare and Mim instead of Valor and Mac. It's told from Dare's POV. I was so looking forward to it. But it ended up being very disappointing. There was almost no action in this one. It was mostly drama, drama then some more drama, which was very boring. Mostly Dare was being a pain and rude and whiny all the time. There was no description of how he fell in love with Mim, or how she fell for him. Actually we do not learn anything new about Mim in this book. It's like she is barely in it. And that would've been ok if there was at least some good action scenes but no! Nothing exciting happened. And by the time they actually got together he was like: "Oh how could you love me, I'm ugly, I look old!" And she was like: "Oh you don't really love me, my mom is prettier than me, what could you see in me?" Yes please tell us what you see in each other. LOVE IS NOT ABOUT LOOKS!!!! SO STOP TREATING YOURSELVES AS OBJECTS AND NOT SEEING EACH OTHER AS REAL PEOPLE WITH SELF-RESPECT AND DIGNITY!!! Sheesh!!!
Content: very minor violence, some cuss words, few kissing scenes but in general it felt more sensual than anyone under 16 should read about. (Warning: book 4 leans more toward the erotic side).

Dare A Greystone Novel Book 2 eBook Taylor Longford Reviews
If you haven't already read it, check out the first book by this author, Valor (A Greystone Novel). It's free for the moment, but if it's not, I definitely recommend paying for it. I felt the need to let others know about this new series and new author (whose website claims she can only write on the weekends because of her day job, but I want her to HURRY UP AND WRITE THE 3RD BOOK!). It's hard to find gargoyle books, especially GOOD gargoyle books, and I really enjoyed the fresh take on them by this author. I had looked at this second book (Dare) before downloading the first book, and had the thought that I might not want to read it because the description said he didn't have wings. Well, Dare ended up being one of my favorite characters, and by the time I got through the first book I had no hesitation at all before buying the second! And without spoilers, the no-wings thing was one of my favorite parts of the storyline.
This is a young adult book, but I as an adult thoroughly enjoyed it. I also wouldn't have a problem letting my 13 year old read it as well, since there is no objectionable material (as an adult, I don't mind objectionable material ;) , but I didn't miss it at all in this book either).
If you're a fan of the paranormal genre, gargoyles in particular, and have gotten tired of reading the same old stories, pick this book up. This new author definitely has my attention, and I'm truly hoping that she ends up writing a book for each of the gargoyles that have been introduced (and those that haven't!). There's not a single character I've encountered in her books that I wouldn't be waiting on the edge of my seat for their story and the chance to read it. Which is RARE for me, usually in the books with a semi-large cast of characters, there's at least one or two who I think "ehh, not particularly interested". Not with this one.
Summary Buy the first book, buy this one, and wait at the edge of your seat with me for the one that will follow. You won't regret it.
Taylor, you're doing great, keep up the good work, and I can't wait till you can quit your day job!
Dare is book two in the Greystone Series by Taylor Longford and I have to say, I am hooked on this series! The genre of Young Adult Paranormal Romance is so varied, yet I until I met the Greystone 'family' I had yet to read a series that featured gargoyles and harpies. So fun!
This has ended up being more a review of the entire series...but the individual books can be read and enjoyed completely independently.
One thing I love about this author, is her ability to blend each of the character's stories from one to the other seamlessly. Each of the Greystone books are the story of a different member of a family of gargoyles - ridiculously handsome males with wings, incredible strength, and super hearing, who can turn to stone and back at will - and the equally ridiculously ugly and strong harpies who hunt them. Each book focuses on one of the gargoyles and the story also leads us into the next book and the story of another of her amazing characters.
The other thing I love about her writing is her use of both a huge time gap (800 years), and still keeping the characters at or very near the age of their romantic interests. Of course there is a romantic interest! Which leads me to the last and most important thing I have come to love about this author...her ability to write a romance for young adults, about young adults falling in love that doesn't contain a hint of explicit sex or graphic language. The men are hot, and each has his own distinct personality, and the young ladies that cross their paths are relatable and also very distinct.
In conclusion - these are super sweet, clean, easy reads for the early teen to college readers of paranormal romance. Honestly, could easily be a 5 star series had the series contained a little more depth of plot, but the books are in no way simple and the consistency of the plot throughout is excellent.
I highly recommend this series.
